For [personal profile] rinkafic, who prompted "Lorne/Parrish wakes up sick and has to stay home. The other stays to take care of him."

Word Count: 817

It all started with a sneeze in the middle of a Senior Staff meeting. Evan had tried to stifle it, but instead of muffling the noise as was his intent, all he managed to do was make the sneeze sound even louder than it would have originally. That sneeze was followed by three more in rapid succession, making Evan's head hurt even more than it had before. McKay, who was up front giving a presentation, stopped mid-sentence and gave Evan a short glare.

“You're sick, aren't you?” McKay asked bluntly, stepping away from the conference table even though he was a solid six feet away from Evan. “What the hell are you doing here? Shouldn't you be in your bed or something?”

“Yes, he should.” Evan turned in his chair to see David standing at the entrance to the conference room, his arms crossed over his chest. David looked rather annoyed, and was glaring pointedly at Evan, who gave his mate a weak, sheepish smile before sneezing again, managing to muffle it in the crook of his elbow. Evan snuffled a bit before taking a tissue out of one of his pockets and using it.

“I'm fine,” Evan insisted, crumpling the tissue and putting it back into his pocket. McKay wrinkled his nose in disgust at the action, but didn't say anything further about it.

“Lorne, go to bed,” Colonel Sheppard said, leaning back in his chair. “Pardon the saying, but you're as sick as a dog, and you need to get better. I'm not going to have my Beta hacking up a lung throughout the day when he could be resting up and getting better.” He grinned. “Besides, I think your mate's going to drag you off to bed whether either of us likes it or not.”

Evan sighed and then pushed his chair back, abandoning the paperwork in front of him as he got to his feet. David strode forward, took hold of one of Evan's wrists, and pulled him out of the conference room, not letting go until the two of them got into the nearest transporter. While Evan liked David to occasionally take control of what was going on, now was not the best time. It apparently wasn't the best time to take a transporter, either, as Evan felt distinctly far more nauseous than he normally did after he and David stepped out of the one closest to their quarters.

He managed to keep his gag reflex down until they reached their quarters, however, but made a beeline for the bathroom once the door had opened. Evan was soon lost in the misery of emptying what little he'd been able to get down that morning into the bowl of the gracefully designed Ancient toilet. He didn't even register David coming into the bathroom until a cool, damp cloth was laid across the back of his neck. It felt fantastic, and Evan made a soft noise of thanks. Evan heard the chink of glass against porcelain as David set something down on the counter, and then felt the strong hand of his mate gently rubbing his back as the last of the dry heaves tore through his body.

“I told you you should have stayed home, Ev,” David said softly, continuing his ministrations as he spoke. “Stubborn old leopard.”

“'M not that old, David,” Evan managed, waiting for a few minutes until he was sure that he wouldn't be making a mess all over the bathroom floor before he pushed himself away from the toilet. David handed him a half-full glass of water and a towel, the former of which Evan used to clean out the rancid taste in his mouth and the latter to clean his face with.

“Bed. Now.” Evan didn't even bother to argue; when David got that stubborn look on his face, there was no point in trying to change his mind.

“Yes, mother.” Evan managed to get to his feet without too many problems and made his way over to the bed, David trailing closely behind like an overzealous watchdog. Well, watch-mountain lion, in his case. After stripping down to his boxers, Evan got into bed, a sudden wave of weariness overtaking him almost as soon as his head hit the pillow. David fussed around a little bit, pulling the blankets up around Evan and generally tucking him in.

“Sleep. I'll be right here if you need me,” the botanist said, sitting down one the bed next to Evan and picking up a book from his bedside table. The lights dimmed to a level that didn't bother Evan but which allowed David to read comfortably without eye strain. Evan slipped into sleep as he listened to the sounds of pages turning and his mate breathing beside him, his entire body relaxing and beginning to heal.
